Tips for Search Engine Submission
The internet is the greatest place to market your company, ideas, services and products, provided your web page is optimised to be search engine friendly and geared to attracting traffic. Websites compete with millions of other sites to achieve a good ranking with search engines, and if your site is not Search Engine Optimised you may just as well give up the domain you have purchased.
What is search engine optimization?
How many people do you know who actually look at the third or fifth page of a search engine’s results? Most people only look at the first ten to twenty results - one page. SEO can get your site ranked in the first bunch of results.
Search Engine Optimisation can be defined as the development by which a site’s rankings with search engines are raised by the best possible use of keywords.
But a balance must he struck between what the user requires and what search engines require. Things that look beautiful on your site may even hue a negative influence on your sites tanking. Good content ensures return visits, and keyword-enriched content ensures that people win find your site quickly in the first place.
Your website content
The web is indexed with keywords. Users type in a keyword, an exact phrase or a single keyword to find a relevant page. Information specialists’ use superior searching techniques to find web content such as information imbedded in databases or dictionaries, but the typical user thinks of the first thing associated with a query and types it in.
Broad keywords on your site will not generate enough traffic because many thousands of pages have that exact keyword. You need specific keywords and keyword phrases.
Keyword density must be balanced with relation to the rest of the page. There must he a significant amount of content, any way, on the page for it to be picked up by search engines, but having too little information on a page also means that key words cannot be repeated often enough without a result termed “keyword stuffing”.
Keyword stuffing is when too many of the same keywords appear on a page, and search engines will rank your page lower if they regard it as stuffed.
Your main keywords must appear in certain areas of the page, and they must preferably stand out from the rest of the text. There are a number of ways to do this but that is another topic.
Meta Tags
There cannot be enough importance on Meta Tags, which are in the non-visible part of your page, par of its source code. This is where the page Title, Description and Keywords are placed for search engines to scan, and most search engines will not be able to find your site if a Meta Tag is not present. Once again, the keywords and their relation to the page title, description and content become important. Don’t stuff this area with long descriptions, either, since search engines will reject your page if its description is too long or if keywords arc repeated three or more times. Keep a balance.
There are a number of extensions to pages that will lead to exclusion from search engines, because search engine spiders can’t read things like Java and CGI scripts. A rohot.txt file helps spiders exclude certain parts of your page.
